SIP was bathed in a jubilant, vibrant atmosphere on Tuesday as diverse events were held to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival which is reckoned on the fifteenth day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar.

Traditions related to the festival, such as eating tangyuan (stuffed small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour) and guessing riddles, were highlighted in these events, while modern festivities were incorporated.

At Suzhou Industrial Park Urban Art Space, visitors admired exquisite lantern displays, and participated in riddle guessing in a lively atmosphere.

The Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre hosted a spectacular concert featuring violinist Jin Xiaolong and his friends performing a list of classic musical pieces.

The event at SIP Cultural Centre offered the participants an opportunity to learn about diverse traditional crafts recognized as intangible cultural heritage, and even try their hands on them following the demonstrations and instructions of experts from Shanghai and Suzhou.

SIP Library captivated book lovers with poetry reading, cartoons by a famous Suzhou-native cartoonist, and riddles created based on literature and history. Its “Reading Bus” brought a mini book fair to a residential quarter and a public square.

Shopping complexes contributed to the festivities with light shows, diverse markets and bazaars, and other activities.

SIP’s sub-districts also hosted colorful celebrations, including performances, hands-on activities, games, and volunteer services.
